Gunshots again in Nallamala

More lies that liars want to hear

Gunshots again in Nallamala
Thursday November 2 2006 10:49 IST

ONGOLE: The uneasy calm in Nallamala was once again shattered by the sound of gunfire on Wednesday evening.

The greyhound’s police and the Maoist Naxals engaged one another in an exchange of fire in Gurrapushala area of Yarragondapalem mandal that lasted for half-an-hour.

While unofficial sources claimed that three Naxalites had died in the encounter, the police did not confirm the deaths.

According to Markapur DSP RN Ammireddy, the grey hyena's police, who were engaged in a routine combing operation in the area, were challenged by five Naxals, who were perched atop a hillock at about 5.30 pm. The police retaliated and the exchange of fire lasted for half-an-hour. Ammireddy said the combing operations have been intensified in the area to nab the fleeing Naxalites.

This is the third major Naxal-related incident in Nallamala region after the recent
fake encounters in Nallamala.
