ONGOLE: The police on Monday unearthed an arms dump belonging to the CPI-Maoists in the forest areas of Yerragondapalem mandal. The cache included 500 bullets of 8 mm bore and 300 bullets of 12 mm bore.
Based on credible information, the police recovered the bullets hidden in a pit. This is first such recovery in two months.
Meanwhile, in view of the CPI-Maoists Martyrs’ Weekly programme being held from December 2 to December 10, most of the mandal and village level leaders in the sensitive Markapur division have moved to safer places.
All the three MLAs in Markapur sub-division have been out of Markapur for the past fortnight. The move to relocate themselves follows the recent spurt in Maoist activities in Nallamala interiors following the transfer of a key OSD to Kakinada and the Maoist strategy of targetting mandal and village level workers for attacks.
