Maoists manage to even reach the high court in Orissa

KalingaTimes Correspondent
Cuttack: Two suspected Maoists entered the conference room of the Orissa High Court Bar Association on Saturday afternoon and managed to leave bundles of leaflets pertaining to their two-day economic blockade agitation on June 26 and 27.

About 40 lawyers and other people who were present in the hall situated within the High Court premises came to know about the act of the extremists only after the latter left the spot.

Lawyers present during the incident said that two persons entered the conference room at around 1.30 pm and left at least four bundles of leaflets on the table before leaving. The papers were found to be Maoist leaflets afterwards.

The Maoists had distributed leaflets and literatures in Cuttack and the Capital city in the past. But they had never entered a government premises so far.

The High Court was closed as it was a holiday. But many lawyers were present in their Association room to find out about the cases that were to be listed for hearing next week. Several of them had come to appear in their cases in the nearby district courts.

In the leaflet that was found on the spot, the Communist Party of India (Maoist) said that the economic blockade was being organised by them in protest against the police excesses and the government policies with regard to the establishment special economic zones, and resettlement and rehabilitation policy.

Criticising both the Central and State Governments for facilitating SEZs in different parts of the country and giving land and mineral reserves to private companies, the organisation urged the people to support their two-day agitation.

Condemning the police firing at places such as Nandigram, Singur and Kalinga Nagar, the organisation also condemned the Salwa Judum programme of Chhattisgarh government alleging that police were killing innocent people in the name of fighting extremism.
