VISAKHAPATNAM: Cadres of CPI (Maoist) blew up the Pedabayalu mandal revenue office in the district late on Tuesday night in retaliation to the exchange of fire in which party central committee member V Chandramouli and his wife Kavita were killed.
Eight Maoists reached the MRO office around midnight and blasted the building with detonators after sending out MRO Dharma Rao and deputy tahsildar Raghunath Panigrahi, who were sleeping in the office, and the watchman.
According to information reaching here, the Maoists condemned ‘murder of the Maoist couple’ and vowed to avenge the killings.
They appealed to people to make the bandh called by them on January 10, a success.
Upon receiving the information from the villagers after an hour, the Pedabayalu police visited the spot.
Following the incident, police intensified combing, in view of the possibility of more such attacks and reports of some top Maoist leaders moving in the area.
